Intern-al Affairs 2: Ellis O’Gorman

We’d like to introduce you guys to our latest superstar intern: Ellis O’Gorman. Ellis has been helping us out in the studio since the beginning of August, she’s an amazing copy writer and works hard to make sure we are visible to  our online social media network. One of her first missions was helping out at our Launch night back in September, making sure that all our guests we warmly welcomed and could walk away with a lovely Antithesis garment in hand! Ellis has previously been studying an online Foundation Retail Marketing and Management degree whilst training as a creative events planning & promotions assistant at a samples sales company based in Sussex. Ellis is originally from Brighton and has recently been living in Central London, but will be returning home to the seaside this December. We’ll miss her terribly, but our loss is Brighton’s gain! Before we let her go off to her bright future we wanted to share her lovely smile and experiences with you!

Our lovely Intern Ellis

Why did you choose to work with Antithesis?

I was first introduced to Antithesis by an internship company who had been helping me to find the right kind of internship for me. I looked them up online and the minute I watched their first video and saw how clever the designs were I really wanted to go and interview for the opportunity to work with Antithesis. Not only did I love the designs, but the whole concept behind Antithesis intrigued me and I’m particularly interested in womenswear. So I was really excited for the chance to work for a label that I found both interesting and exciting.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I would like to go on and study a Fashion Marketing & Promotion course either at University or through an online course. I would also like to spend some more time getting experience within a marketing role at larger fashion companies and carry on learning more about this career path to (fingers crossed) work within a role in this field later on.

Hard at work!

Have these ambitions changed since working with Antithesis?

Not at all, if anything I feel like it’s helped me to be more certain about the career path I hope to take. I feel less indecisive about where I want to go in the Fashion industry.

What have you most enjoyed doing in your time at Antithesis?

I’ve really enjoyed contributing towards the blog posts, I enjoy creative writing so it’s been fun to get the chance to do quite a bit of it. I’ve also loved learning more about sustainable fashion as it wasn’t something I had always paid attention to before. Its been great to learn more about it, and I’ve even found myself thinking a bit more about my purchases and what I’m wearing these days.

What will you remember most about your time at Antithesis?

There’s quite a few things I’ll remember about my time at Antithesis. I think I’ll remember the experience as a whole and the great time I’ve had working for Antithesis. I’ll remember the Launch Night at the Park Plaza which was an amazing evening as well as spending some time getting to see first hand the processes that go into designing a collection. I’m also going to remember some of the good tips on how to be an effective marketeer that I’ve picked up whilst working for Antithesis.

Sisters in Arms…Spotlight: Jennifer Williams-Bafoe

Here at ANTITHESIS it is no secret that we are great lovers of and firm believers in the powerful 21st Century woman. With this in mind we stop to take a moment to tell you about the inspirational and lovely Jennifer Williams-Bafoe, who we have been lucky to have had great support and mentoring from over the past few months.Jennifer has been a wonderful advisor to us, and that is why we couldn’t be more excited to get the opportunity to work alongside her with the launch of our first collection at one of her fabulous Ladies’ Nights on the 6th September at the Park Plaza Hotel, Primo Bar.Originally trained as a designer and with over 17 years in the fashion, creative and business industries under her belt Jennifer decided that there was much-needed space in the market for a company that would lend help and support to small, up and coming creative businesses. So, in March 2005 Jennifer founded and set up her successful business Willbaforce Ltd and with her wonderful team of experts they have continued to provide assistance and advice from Project Management, Events, Pr & Styling to Business Development and Product Management.

Often referred to as “Willbaforce” or just “The Force” Jennifer has a wide range of connections within the creative industries and has mentioned before that one of her proudest moments was “on my work at The British Fashion Council by acknowledged by Drapers Record and being referred to as a person running the Industry’s Dating Agency”. With all this in mind, it’s no wonder that it has been such a pleasure to have been given the chance to work with such a presence in the Creative industries.

For more info on Jennifer Williams-Bafoe, follow her inspirational Twitter feed @willbaforceltd, visit www.willbaforce.com, or come down to our launch event and see ‘The Force’ in action!

Antithesis on the Move

Many exciting things have been happening here at Antithesis!

Now we’ve completed and shot our Fall collection, which will be landing on our site Antithesis.co from 6th September, we’ve been busy planning our launch event at the Primo Bar – Park Plaza Hotel! Not content with a busy month we decided to top off our schedule with a change of scenery, just in time to soak up some East London Olympic charm!

After a good old look around, we moved into our new location at Hackney Downs Studios last week, where we opted for The Heartspace, a great shared space just a stone’s throw away from the delightfully authentic Russet Cafe (perfect for a much-needed coffee break or delicious lunch). Here we are surrounded with creatives from every possible discipline and enough floor space to swing a clowder of cats!

After a couple of incredibly busy days last week we are both delighted and relieved to say that we are finally all settled into our new home for the forseeable future. Our fabulous new pattern cutting table made by Aldworth James & Bond has made its arrival, and we can’t wait to start getting creative and crack on with our Spring collection! Take a look below at some images of our new surroundings and keep an eye out on the blog for images from our editorial shoot of the Fall collection!

Here’s our brilliant new pattern cutting table!

Behind the Seams

We thought we would tell you a little bit about us, the team behind Antithesis. Renée Lacroix and Zahra Ash-Harper met just over a year ago during an event, How to Start-Up in Fashion, organised by University of the Arts London. After realising how much we had in common business-wise, we decided to partner up for our final MA project. Our ideas gradually evolved into a brand and, upon graduating, we decided to follow our dreams: launching our own label.

While we had the same business idea, offering versatile and multi-functional womenswear, our vision unfolded from two distinct paths. As a designer concerned by over-consumption and its environmental impacts, Renée’s interests are primarily linked to sustainability. With a philosophy degree under her belt, Zahra’s motivations are driven by the idea of empowering female consumers by providing choice, facilitating individuality and co-creation in fashion garments.

With a career background in project management and communications, Zahra is responsible for overarching business strategy, day-to-day management of the business, marketing and communications. Trained as a womenswear designer, Renée is responsible for art direction, developing the brand image and product management from research to design and production.
